Lao tourist e visa reopens, welcoming back international tourists
A visa is an indispensable item for travelers who want to travel abroad. In July 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, together with its designated partners, officially launched Lao eVisa. Citizens from 162 eligible countries can now apply for an e Visa to Lao.
The E-Visa Laos is an electronic travel authorization that allows the holders to enter the country for tourism purposes. It is valid for 60 days from the issued date, allowing tourists to stay in the country within 30 days. This type of visa is used for a single entry only. .
Applying for a Lao e visa online is straightforward and effortless. Tourists need to fill in an online application form with basic personal information such as full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, and date of arrival/departure. In addition, tourists must note that the visa will be granted once they meet all the requirements for a Lao e Visa. Therefore, tourists should check the Lao visa requirements for their country of origin before applying. A Lao e visa can be processed within 03 business days if the applicants provide enough required documents and accurate information.
With reference to the Lao Government Notice No.627/PMO regarding entry rules for travelers entering Lao PDR during the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), foreign citizens aged 12 or older must follow some entry rules. Vaccinated travelers have to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in English language and certified by an authorized heath agency.
For non-vaccinated travelers, they must present proof of Antigen Test Kit examination with a negative result of COVID-19 in English language within 48 hours prior to arrival at Lao PDR.
Covid - 19 testing upon arrival to Lao PDR is no longer required. At present, all travelers younger than 12 years of age, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status, are exempt from the obligation to present a negative test result of a Covid-19 viral test or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before entering Lao PDR.
